Injuries. That can be one word that can be accurately describe the Thunder’s season last season. Kevin Durant missed most of the season and Russell Westbrook missed a lot of time as well. Even Serge Ibaka too. It was a very tough season for the Thunder. Even with all the major injuries they had to deal with last season, they finished with a 45-37 record, tied in 8th with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Pelicans held the tiebreaker, so they advanced and left the Thunder watching it from home. Kevin Durant is healing. I have a feeling that he will come into next season with vengeance. If health plays no factor, the Thunder can be one of the Top 3 teams in the Western Conference.
Cameron Payne is one of the new faces for the Oklahoma City Thunder, whom they drafted 14th overall. The other big new face on the team is Billy Donovan. He is the new head coach of the Thunder. We will see how his first season plays out but he might a better fit for this team than Scott Brooks. Jeremy Lamb is the biggest piece that the Thunder lost. They traded him to the Hornets after some disappointing season with the Thunder. If Dion Waiters can get his career turned around with the Thunder, this team will be even better. The talent is there, he just has to put it all together. The bench with D.J. Augustin, Steven Adams/Enes Kanter, Nick Collison, Mitch McGary, Anthony Morrow, and Kyle Singler can be a deep one. They’ll need those guys if they are to make a push for the NBA Finals. The Thunder have a potentially dangerous team from the starters to the bench for next season.
I will give the Thunder a trending same grade. The reason for that is, yes they will be way better than last season but that season was just some injury plagued/cursed season. If they were healthy, you should not expect that kind of record for them. It was just a freak season. They will be a powerhouse like they were two seasons ago. Maybe Billy Donovan pushes the Thunder over the hump. It’s too early to decide. I have them ranked #7 coming into the new season.
